I knew this upcoming month was going to be meh, but now that I've mapped out what needs to be due when... it's definitely going to suck.  I'm determined to finish Gift of Screws by this year's Purim, after not making all previous deadlines.  And unfortunately that means I'll be responsible for writing, betaing, and editing a chapter once a week for ( Read more... )

Where does one find a screenwriting contest? I need a kick in the ass to finish, and, you know, start my pet pilot script.

MovieBytes: http://www.moviebytes.com/directory.cfm

There are some in the past that haven't been listed on that site, but MovieBytes IMO is a great start if you're interested. It lists all upcoming contests, what they accept, how much it costs, etc.

Nerds. Things that cost munnies are not my favorite. That's precious money saved to buy diet Coke and useless TV memorabilia/shit from eBay. Then again, I write at the pace of a slug on a bad trip, so I suppose I have time to save up.

There are some contests that don't cost anything, but they are few and far between. Online submissions help cut costs, because you don't have to pay for S&H and printing (in some cases). Typically though anywhere from 30-50 dollars is normal to hand over. It sucks, but it is added motivation to make sure that what you are sending in is as good as it can be. And if you win, there are usually cash prizes that make the cost worth it in the end.
