"Huzza! She spurns the Northern scum!"

There's an episode of The West Wing where Toby demands to know, "Eighty-five percent of what kind of backwards population votes for this woman?"  Even before Andi could respond, I LOLed out loud and answered, "That's Maryland!"  And so it is.   Technically, we are part of the south, located right below the Mason-Dixon line.  But I've yet to meet a ( Read more... )

I love that bit in West Wing.

I love how much you know about where you're from, I know next to nothing, I could probably tell you a few disjointed facts.

That bit in the West Wing is great, even more so because the actor, Richard Schiff, is from Maryland as well. :-P

I honestly don't know much about the town I grew up in. It's such a small place with no real repository for its history, and the only time it's ever in the news is when, seriously, someone poisons our water... which happens all too frequently. o_O

But I am pretty familiar with the state history. I'm not an expert by any means - that's for sure. But the Civil War is obviously one of the most important events in American history, and a lot of that does take place in MD or in neighboring areas. And in school, our teachers would always start from the beginning with the colonies and aim to get us through till today, but we'd always get stuck on the Civil War, lol.

I love how they do that, like Josh makes jokes about Donna being from Wisconsin and the actor Bradley Whitford is from Wisconsin.

Well at least you know about the state, that's still better than me.

Of course, then people always say, "Well, that means people in the future are going to judge you." My response is threefold. 1). In the future, I will be dead, so I won't give a fuck.

I laughed so hard at that. I mean, I guess it can work so many ways, but still, it's a fair point.

Well, it's true. I mean unless they summon me with their Ouija board, it's not like I'm going to know they're judging me. :P

Yay! Although it should be noted: the backwards population of MD would have never voted for Andi. The district she wins is, sadly, one of the more normal places to live, LOL.

That was by far the most interesting rant I've heard recently. Also, the history part is fascinating.

:D The history never ceases to make me laugh. Especially the part where Delaware also gets put under martial law, because it was just near MD. It's kind of like the little sibling getting caught in the crossfire, lol. :-P

I'm seconding Erin. I always enjoy your rants, despite, like, never actually saying anything, but this was actually a good time waster and verily entertaining.

Also, I must confess, I always confuse Maryland and Maine geographically. Don't ask how. Clearly alphabetical order applies to states somehow.
