John made a lot of mistakes, definitely. I think that he really did try (sometimes) but he had a habit of getting swept up into the hunt.

Aw ... John is not a perfect father, but he does try. Sometimes one gotta remember that he's a product of his generation and try to forgive some of his missteps.

But never can one doubt the light of his love and this is evident here.
