The best thing to do is do yard work and such early in the morning. The 100+ heat index is very common for AUG.

Some would call that "lazy" ;) Personally, I'll be in bed if you need me.

We've got the same level of warning here in NC ... and our lawn is waiting until next week, too. :-) This is my favorite part of our warning: "REMEMBER THAT THE FORECAST HIGHS ARE SHADE TEMPERATURES... AND THAT BEING IN DIRECT SUNSHINE CAN ADD 15 DEGREES OR MORE TO THE TEMPERATURE."

Oh, and our air quality is bad, too. " ... A CODE ORANGE AIR QUALITY ACTION DAY FOR THE TRIANGLE AREA FOR TODAY. AN AIR QUALITY ACTION DAY MEANS THAT GROUND LEVEL OZONE CONCENTRATIONS WITHIN THE REGION MAY APPROACH OR EXCEED UNHEALTHY STANDARDS."

Just lovely. Not. ;-)

And we now also have a UV index of 10+ (extreme). Yay.

I initially thought you meant Birmingham England. I really should stop skimming and look at usernames and/or avators before reading.

Me, too, and I was wondering why on earth I hadn't heard cries of protest from humid, hot UKers earlier!
FTR, Toronto's been nearly as bad (temps in the 90s, with 100% humidity so it feels like it's in the upper 90s/100+), but we also get -20'C which feels like -30'C in the winter, so it's possible we have one of the biggest temperature differentials. Such infamy is cold comfort when we're freezing or sweltering through either extreme....

That means:
"It is going to be excessively hot and humid, so take sensible precautions."

Do you need to open a branch of the Plain English Society?

I guess they mean "more than the usual 96F with 80% humidity" :)
