♥ Under duress! Don't you realise I have an increasingly elaborate post-apocalyptic AU I'm being distracted from? ;_;
and his grade-school methods to get attention are so incredibly cute. ♥
And more so because they really do start out unintentional, and only become habit after Watanuki proves to have a grade school type reaction to them.
True, so I suspect Doumeki's crimes are more along the lines of picking a book off the shelf, flicking through a few pages and deciding it's no use, then leaving it on any shelf that happens to be nearby at the time. That, and leaving books in odd corners of the library where they could be missed for ages. Either way, I am sure none of his books ever get near those carts. (>< You know that thing where you could've sworn you checked spelling on something and fixed it, and then it turns out you didn't? Will fix now.)
You wouldn't believe it coming from an amateur writer, but I have been going through this weird phase lately where I *cannot* work on more than one or two things at once without this little voice in my head reminding me about the other things. So my WIP folder is actually getting *shorter* for the first time in known history. And I'm even finishing just about everything I'm starting lately. You may boggle at will.
Yes, exactly! Because if either of them would just start being mature about it, the whole thing would dry up in a week. But what fun would that be?
But of course the best part about Doumeki is that it didn't even start as a way of getting attention, he just really couldn't be bothered walking all the way to those carts with those heavy reference books when he knew Watanuki would come and pick them up for him later if he just left them somewhere convenient. Until he really did get addicted to the attention, that is, and started going to the lengths where, even if he *was* right next to a cart, he'd lug a heavy book over to
( ... )
Well, Doumeki is very innocent about it all, even inside his own head (initially). And Watanuki never suspects he's being anything other than an irritation, because he's always been a little slow about these things. So he keeps right on keeping his eye on Doumeki because naturally it is his sacred duty as librarian - and Doumeki goes right on leaving things lying where he shouldn't, because it's really far too effective at getting him attention.
You had me grinning from "The first time..." Of course Doumeki had to conduct a series of experiments to fully explore the phenomenon. It certainly wasn't because Watanuki's rages were so amusing.
(And I loved Doumeki's ability to interpret Watanuki's bustling noises.)
Now, if Doumeki wanted to expand his survey, he'd solicit other people to misshelve books... to see if Watanuki's attention was on the books, or on Doumeki himself. *grins*
And sadly for me, I am *far* too easily influenced in the fic-department by knowing these things. ^^;;
(Very likely Watanuki has quite distinct bustling noises for 'I am genuinely working as fast as I can', 'I am working as far away from you as I can get, because I have far more important things to do than babysit you every minute you are here', and of course 'I have very important things to do right here near where you are for utterly unrelated reasons, and do not think for a moment I cannot see exactly where you put everything down!')
Now, if Doumeki wanted to expand his survey, he'd solicit other people to misshelve books... to see if Watanuki's attention was on the books, or on Doumeki himself. *grins*
No, I think Doumeki is quite satisfied with the results of the experiment as they are. Besides that might mean Watanuki's attention would wind up on *other* people, and he wouldn't want to risk that.
And IIRC we talked about this briefly the first time I posted my notes on the Librarian AU. <333333 The idea intrigued me then and I am all, "aaaaaah, how fabulous!" now at your execution of it. :)))) I think what I liked best was that Doumeki comes off as the sort of person who teases unthinkingly but without malice, and the way he catches on instinctively about what buttons to push and then improves on his skillz later on. That's a really long sentence. ;___;
That last line. *_____* THIS IS THE REASON WHY YUUKO AND CLOW PLOT TO GET THEM TOGETHER. "Ah~young love," they croon. ♥ ♥ ♥
The way Tomoyo and Hokuto love Watanuki, I am sure
Indeed we did, it was one of the first things-that-would-have-to-happen that struck me when you mentioned a library AU. So naturally it was also the first to come back to me when I started thinking fic-ish thoughts.
It is not that long at all by my standards. But it is also a very accurate summary of exactly what was going on. *g*
