just out of curiosity, what makes it the devils chord? isnt it just a diminished D chord? i know that the locrian mode is considered "satanic", but didnt know that was the same about diminished chords.

According to my friend Ben, the name originated in the early 20th century... something about being unpleasant sounding (and therefore, obviously the work of the devil)... I only really got into it when I heard Say Anything's "An Orgy of Critics"... check it out. Definitely devilish.
