I was v. irritated by the protagonist in Forest of Hands and Teeth. I think when the author was writing Mary, she intended her protagonist to be a strong, independent, young female (ala Buffy) but instead she comes off as a needy, whiny, navel-gazing teen (ala Bella Swan) instead.

Durr. I was looking forward to reading it pa naman. Zombie book fail.

Not enough zombies and gore to make up for whiny protagonist. You're better off with the Jane Austen satire.

Safe is best issue of "Season 8" I think, and I love it so much that I think of it as on par with TV episodes. Better than Beer Bad, for sure. Or that episode na Buffy and Riley kept doing it, eew.

And Kavalier and Clay! By the end of it I was seeing it like a Spider-man movie, but as a period piece, and directed by someone else. (And then there's the rumor that Tobey Maguire was supposed to be attached to it but it went away.)

Ok, none of those actors are who I picture the lead roles to be, esp. Natalie Portman. She's too skinny to be Rosa.

Kavalier and Klay died for me at the postwar stuff. Yawn.

I don't think Chabon can end stories well. C ref Yiddish Policeman, or that short story he wrote for that McSweeney's compilation "Stories of Adventure" (or something, my copy's upstairs and it's a very long title). He's very good for my vocab, though.

This is the first Chabon work I finished! Now, I don't know if I should go back and read Wonder Boys or just be happy with this one book.

Check it out na rin. Your first world library access disgusts me. :)

I've not read Wonder Boys yet, but will check it out at the friendly neighborhood bargain bin. That being said, precocious writer is precocious.

Yet, just a couple of days ago, I was bitching about the revamp of the online catalog. I really should be more appreciative, shouldn't I?
