In honor of all the expecting mothers on my friends list...

...I give you the TGGWE (Thank G-d Gore Wasn't Elected) article of the week:

Citing concerns about plastic disposable diapers clogging landfills and the amount of washing and detergents that cloth diapers require, many environmentalists are taking a page from tribal cultures and seeking to eliminate the use of the baby diapers altogether.

ACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No I consider myself an environmentalist, I recycle just about everything, and I reuse, etc etc. I also agree that toilets use (waste) WAY too much water. But a total waterless toilet system? No way. I think those recycling waste management plants are the best (but can't think of the real name for it)

AND hold your baby over a shrub if it has to pee?? Give me a freaking break. And next thing you know they will be telling mommies to stop driving, because clearly you can't stop the car and remove the baby to get it to a shrub on time.

Maybe mommies should just stay home in their dirt huts from now on. Yeah, that makes sense.

I do the same things but I consider myself a conservationist rather than an enviroMENTAList. There is a difference.

Yes, I agree. I conserve; I recycle. But I have no mental disorder that would cause me to want to raise my child on a dirt floor filled with piles and puddles of natural excrement.

Yeah, like I told raphaela, when choosing a day care it's very important to get a good look at the "simple, dirt-floored, baby-friendly hut" room. Spare me.

Did you see the other article Morano wrote that was cited on NR? About Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore extolling the virtues of living in Third World countries? Funny, I don't see them moving down there. And I'd love to hear what the Nepalese would have to say if they'd been offered a week with Diaz' money and her SUV.

I, for one, like their idea. I think every mother in Manhattan should just hold their babies over the subway grate.

My grandmother (the one who broker her hip) still has my ancient clothe diapers. She uses them to polish her furniture.

So do my parents! 35-yr-old dust rags. Hey, but they're re-using, recycling! ;)

Cloth diapers have gravity issues. I think my mother used them on me for a nanosecond prior to switching to synthetic materials.

Could explain why I'm so artificial. :P
