It's been like 14 hours since Obama was declared the President-elect, and I still feel like the best combination of drunk and high in the world. (Yes, I stole that analogy from a fanfic; 10 points if you know which one ( Read more... )

This is just the coolest fucking time to be an American right now. I am so proud of my country.

Ooooh, I missed out on the Arizona and Florida props. And banning gay adoption in Arkansas, what the fuck? Man, I've really been out of the loop. I've been so focused on the presidential election that I haven't been paying attention to other stuff around the country.

Ooooh, I missed out on the Arizona and Florida props. Yeah, so did everyone else. That's why it got passed. No on 102 had very few volunteers and around 64 thousand dollars to play with. Yes had tons, absolute saturation of their message, with almost 4 million to play with. There was no way 102 would fail sadly.

I am not so sure... in Florida and Arizona the media age may have been a big factor.

The whole gay marriage issue is a trailing tool of the culture war idiots... it is one of the last to successfully divide us on age. AZ and FL are retirement homes for the rest of the country, and I never thought we had much chance in either right now (wait 15 years and this will change).

California shocked me; and frankly I think there are a lot of "Yes" voters who think they voted for more equal rights.

We know that happened in Virginia in 2006, about 3% reported being confused... and sickened when they realized they'd voted wrong... not enough of a margin to change the outcome in VA, but it does matter that the confusion tactics worked so well.

California simply had too many propositions this year, it was hard for activists to keep track of.

I live in CA and was proud to vote against prop 8. I am so so sad that it passed and that the No on 8 campaign was so pathetic.

It was really sad, because the pro-Prop 8 people were just so much better funded right from the start. Gah.

I could hardly believe it when I saw Indiana go blue! I'm so glad that I made a bunch of people that I know vote, who otherwise would not have. Yay Hoosiers!

I can't believe Minnesota (and my district! argh!) re-elected that twit, Michele Bachmann. How embarrassing. Our Senate race appears to be up in the air still, but I take comfort in knowing that even if Coleman is re-elected, he'll likely vote with whoever's in power. He was a Democrat before he was a Republican before he started touting his independence.

I'm so angry with California. And Arkansas and Florida, but mostly California. How cruel. Well, I'm sure there'll be appeals. This fight isn't over.

Meantime, this morning I got to wake up in a country that didn't just elect but gave a mandate to the son of an African man and a Kansan woman, and I feel so good about that.

Ugh, so sorry about Michele Bachmann. Gah.

I'm bitterly disappointed in California. I really thought they were better than that.

Overall though, it's such an awesome time to be an American.
