Poor polar bears. Hell, poor us.

I was listening to the bonus audio commentary for An Inconvenient Truth and Laurie David was saying the polar bears are drowning due to the melting ice (which I knew) and that there's been reports of polar bear cannibalism due to diminished food supply (which I didn't). OMGWTFPOLARBEAR!

And yeah, poor us too.

I don't know if I'd heard about the polar bear cannibalism or not... just watching them drown is the predominant image in my head. Meep.

It's seriously scary, Luna. The more I read, the more there's this feeling crawling up the back of my skull that the way we're living is unsustainable. In the sense that it can't go on; that it's all going to break down and fall apart. I don't like it; I like my central heating and my computer and Trader Joe's and my ability to get to the center of town as much as anyone. But it leaves me feeling a little crazy, like people are just going about their daily lives, and planning for the future as if it might not involve harsh economic downturns, peak oil, and food and water insecurity.

It makes me want to be a friggin' organic farmer or something, except I have that annoying tendency to wake up in the afternoon. And I have a rough time getting vegetables out of less than a hundred square feet. ;-p

Here's a link about what we could do, right now: have car insurance rates correlated to how much you drive. I'd be all over that, considering I've put less than 10,000 miles on my car in the last four-five years.
