A gay marriage repeal stays off the ballot in Massachusetts

I said some of this in comments on Luna's headlines post, but she convinced me to put it front and center.

Basically, a bunch of people petitioned the state legislature to put an anti-gay marriage amendment on the ballot. Because yes, there's a chance that even in Gayassachusetts, it might pass. But so far, the legislature's having none of it, ( Read more... )

I think other people misunderstand Massachusetts... people here are not all liberals... there's some of that, but there's also a good share of people who just don't think it's their business to get into other people's business. It's old-fashioned New England reserve, the whole good fences/good neighbors thing. And many of that type may not have been all that keen on the state allowing gay marriage... too much not keeping private things private... but they're probably equally uneager to get into other people's marriages now.

They're not ideal, but as far as "traditional values" go, people could do worse.
