the ongoing crisis

A Foley-free post.

* Well, this isn't good.... Global warming is projected to cause massive drought in the next hundred years. This is apparently the first time they've modelled drought specifics with a supercomputer climate modelling program, and the result is extensive and severe droughts... which could still be under-estimates ( Read more... )

I am *appalled* about the firing of the art teacher in Texas. I hope she sues their *asses* off. What a crock!

Well, the state teacher's association has her back, and her story has now appeared in the New York Times. So any hopes they had of making her leave quietly by the back door? Yeah, not gonna happen.

Hah, that's funny (read : completely and totally apalling), because another art teacher was fired from an Austin high school because some of the kids (who presumably didn't like her either because she was a lesbian or because she failed them) found her Flickr and showed it to another teacher, and it apparently had some semi-nude photos on it. There was a major uproar over it down here.

*sigh* See, as much as that bugs, it's at least sorta comprehensible. Evil and wrong, but comprehensible. Depending on the context and content of the pictures, one could argue she behaved inappropriately by putting them online... even if the kids who turned her in were grudge-holding homophobic little trolls.

But this... she took her kids to a museum. With a handful of other teachers, a dozen parents, and a docent on the route around the museum that the principal had approved. And then loses her job for it. Something doesn't add up.

about the "flip flops" - everybody and their mother wears sandals here, 9 months of the year. IT'S FRIGGIN HOT.

this is right near me, and it was on the news when it happened - and nothing about 'performance' - she was suspended as soon as they heard "OMG NUDES"

*headdesk*

Well, one would hope. And some of my teachers in Mass. wore sandals/open toed shoes, if I recall. The chemistry teacher didn't, but that was because of the handling chemicals thing. It's just such a blatant red herring.

So they're dancing stupid to try to fool the national media. That'll work.

I hope the Texas teachers' association gets her her job back or a ginormous settlement. Cuz this is not on.
