We're gonna legalize torture. These are the torture tactics the Pentagon recently repudiated. Bush wants to sic dogs on naked people; the military doesn't.

... the fact is the President is the one, the only person who, by the Constitution, is given the responsibility to preserve, protect, and defend that document, so it is perfectly consistent with presidential authority under the Constitution itself.

So what is that oath that members of Congress swear? Chopped liver?? If anyone needs to be standing up to Bush's fascist tendencies, it's those folks in Congress. Too bad so many of them are willing to let him walk all over us them.

Good point about the oath. And yeah, Congress should stand up to wannabe strongman Bush, but they're only interested in shows of resistance that help them with voters but let most of the egregious legislation pass through unimpeded.

First off - senators and congressmen take an oath to 'protect and defend the constitution' as well!

Oath Required By The Constitution And By Law To Be Taken By Senators:

"I, A__ B__, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God." (5 U.S.C. 3331.)
