And people wonder why I say the anti-illegal immigration thing has racist overtones? Check out this post from ThinkProgress.

In his new book, State of Emergency, Pat Buchanan argues for “an immediate moratorium on all immigration.” Why? To preserve the dominance of the white race in America. Buchanan explains on pg. 11:

I... How do people think it is okay to say stuff like that!? HOW. I mean, dude, I know they do (hi, there's still the Klan around here), but dude DUDE.

Well, yes but those brown people obviously didn't deserve to keep that land since they went and died off and got mysteriously killed! I mean, really, it's like they just wanted those obviously superior white people to have the land!

Buchanan has a relatively valid point in saying that American culture is a product of who was here - primarily white Europeans, with a sizable black minority. And that if the country is eventually 40% Hispanic, or 20% Muslim, for example, the culture we have grown up in will no longer exist as we know it. And I don't really think that it is wrong for people to want to see the culture they know continue to exist and thrive.

But where I differ with Buchanan is that I don't really think this culture is a result of some genetic superiority, and I don't fear the idea of cultural evolution, as long as it does not occur excessively fast. American culture, unlike that of Europe, is pretty much designed to assimilate immigrants.

Wow. Thank you posting this. The fact he can put this into print and it HASN'T created a larger dismayed response is very discouraging. Everyone is entitled their opinion and beliefs, though I realize education is required to combat this level of ignorance...

Just freaking sad.
