Most of the REAL country artists I listen to are Democrat (or at least liberal - some shockingly so) - and that doesn't mean Nashville. Nashville hasn't had anything to do with COUNTRY music in years. I proudly wear my old "Kerry/Edwards" button to the honky-tonks where the real country lurks, not the stadium shows. :-)
Actually, you can generally find even apolitical country performances in stadia--the biggest country concert series in the US, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, generally has a fair balance of the entire political spectrum in attendance at its shows, and therefore it would not be wise of any of its performers to make statements regarding anything but their own music at the concerts.
However, I consider Toby Keith to be a DINO, possibly more so than folks like Joe Liberman. That said, I kinda like his earlier stuff, before he went and became the Tom Cruise of country music.
That's good to know. (There's still nothing like being able to, you know, TALK to the performer after the show!)
Yeah, I liked TK myself, before his head got so big he couldn't fit through most doors. (Even before the Chicks' "Incident," he was griping because some "nobodies" like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton were winning "his" Grammy awards...)
