My god, do they even realize that people actually need these sorts of programs? Now not only do I have to worry about, I dunno, feeding and clothing my children, I have to also worry about wether my 80 year old, twice survived breast cancer and once survived lung cancer grandmother is going to be kicked out of her nursing home. And, you know, that my son gets all his shots. *cries*

Honestly, I think they know, I just don't think they care. I think they're really, at heart, aristocrats, or plutocrats, so they don't even consider the people being affected real people. Or not "their kind" of people. Their kind of people can give the large donations that buy access, or have the prominence in or with the media to make the noise that drives policy. For some Congressional Republicans, cutting government programs is a matter of faith... a fervent goal based on what they think government should(n't) do. (Considering how much they're willing to spend on their pet projects, wars, and things they think will get them votes, I don't think they have much credibility, though.) For others, it's probably just politically expedient, so they can claim to be doing something about bankrupting the country, while simultaneously massaging the donors who make their power possible. Either way, it's rotten.
