Michael Moore and the word "liberal"

Nov 29, 2005 17:05

I don't always agree with Michael Moore, but seeing him speak on C-Span 2, I find it amazing that he was ever successfully smeared as unAmerican or unpatriotic. You only have to listen to him for five minutes to hear his concern for the American people, especially the working class. I suppose his passionate commitment is what made him dangerous, ( Read more... )

No wonder the far right hates him. All their power is predicated on convincing people that gay sex, or teen sex, or sex-on-tv is a huge threat to them, because otherwise they might notice that it was the left that was trying to protect them from threats like unsafe workplaces, unliveable wages, and unaffordable health care. Just like they have to keep people distracted with the fear of terrorism so they don't realize that the Iraq War had nothing to do with 9-11. Truth-speakers are dangerous.

You got it. Furthermore, it's telling that their counterargument is basically "Michael Moore is fat LOL and he has money so how can he really be a populist LOL!"

I love Michael Moore. I don't care what anyone says. He has courage, convictions, and he's not afraid to speak up, even if what he says is unpopular.

This post just made me love him more.

Thanks for that link. Saying 'it was a mistake' doesn't impact the death of the soldiers... those are just as unfortunate whether you SAY the war was a mistake or not... I certainly pray I'm never put in the situation, but if my husband's life is taken while he's serving [his THIRD freaking tour] in Iraq I will be the FIRST one to say he died in vain. He would want me to, because he agrees. "If it is not a noble cause, he or she might prefer not to die at all." - couldn't be more true. You can be brave and willing to sacrifice everything for your country and still see that this is a joke...

Exactly. I don't see why it's any better, or more respectful, to lie to our soldiers.

And I sincerely hope you're never put in that situation either.

I saw his speech on CSPAN2 today too. He was so compelling and charismatic. That's what makes him such a target for the right.
