PTC Strikes Again

So, Brent Bozell's band of merry censors have released their annual list of Evil Bad Wrong (and Bozell-approved!) television shows.

I don't know why I keep bothering to mention this ridiculous little group, when even the conservative movement doesn't take them seriously. I love this quote from Grover Norquist (and you'll never hear me say *that* ( Read more... )

Since when has Family Guy and American Dad been promoted as family-oriented shows? That's news to me.

The problem with these sort of "family friendly" groups is that they don't consider the quality of shows, but only the number of sexual or violent acts in them. What about all the "reality" show drivel and un-funny watered-down sitcoms that plague the airwaves? They also don't consider the fact that NOT EVERY HOUSEHOLD HAS CHILDREN IN IT! Even if mine did, I would want to decide for myself what my kids watched. The fact that there are more channels and OMG mommy and daddy are too busy with their own lives to spend time with their children and help them make choices is no excuse to leave it up to someone else.

Well, I have to say, I watched an episode of The War At Home and it is the absolute worst thing I've ever seen on television, hands down. Not only hugely offensive (I am so, so, SO tired of the attitude where even the possibility of one's son being gay is considered "shameful" and "wrong"), but extremely poorly written and badly acted, as well.

But I agree that it's up to the parents to decide what to let their kids watch, and not the government. That way lies badness.

Seriously, I think I see Jesus coming down now. I agreed with Grover Norquist AND Michael Chertoff all in one day? The end times are nigh upon us.

I wish that instead there was a group that concentrated on listing shows that parents might want their children to watch, instead of concentrating on listing shows that parents might not want their children to watch ( ... )
