1. What Congressional District do you live in? No clue--it's been gerrymandered to divide my liberal town in half so we recently switched. :P ( ... )

Oh, and I agree with you re: importance of local elections. I do tend to research a lot on the candidates before I vote--through the newspaper, local news stations, planned parenthood questionnaires, league of women voters support statements etc ( ... )

I have more of a chance of electing Democrats on the local and state level than I'll ever have on the national.

And that's what's so fabulous about local elections - you can live in a blood-red state but still have some cool people representing you on a local level. Really, that's how the GOP has gotten to this level of complete governmental control - they started with the local positions.

I actually have a problem with people blindly voting one party or the other without doing any research.

My first 2 elections, I knew who the main person was but everyone else, I had no idea who they were & just hit the button for "Democrat". Pretty dumb way to vote, you know?

that idiot whose name excapes me (GAH! You complain about him all the time. Why am I blanking???)

Sam Brownback! He's fucking evil, yo. And I really only know his name from reading "What's the Matter with Kansas?" ;)

Boog Highberger. Yes, I'm serious. We have a coalition of city commissioners that are really liberal hippies.

Heeeeeeee. That's awesome.

Matt Blunt (GAH!!! Evil man, and the son of Senator Blunt)

OMG, Roy Blunt SCARES ME, so his son can't be any better. And I adore that your Att Gen is a Democrat named Nixon. Hee!

Well, we're considered now a more Republican state, I think, but we've been previously recognized as a swing state.

*nods* But they voted for Clinton both times, so I think it can be turned back our way. Hopefully.

But they voted for Clinton both times

Ahh, the golden years.

I think it's just the atmosphere. I also live in a highly conservative, Republican town - and get a ton of animosity, as I drive a black VW Bug that's plastered with (literally) 18 anti-Bush and liberal bumperstickers. It's hard for me to see anything but red (pun intended) around here.

And yeah. The Blunts are terrifying. Matt Blunt is crippling the A+ Program in the public schools, and he's cutting funding which means a lot of the after-school activities are going to have a visit to the chopping block.

Son of a bitch. (snerk)

Ahh, the golden years.

I miss the 90's so bad.

You should take a pic of your bumper stickers! I posted pics of my Fridge O' Liberal Rage, since I don't have a car anymore. *woe*

I don't know much about Roy Blunt, except that he's always yapping on Fox News and making the most asshatty statements this side of Newt Gingrich. *shudder*

1. 7th CD
2. Congressman-for-life Jim McDermott who is *awesome*. He's up next year as usual.
3. Junior-Cantwell who's up in 06, Senior-Murray who is up in 2010.
4. Gregoire-D, Owens-D, Mckenna-R
5. 36th LD. McGovern is one rep. Can't remember the other rep and the senator.
6. Greg Nickels. The city council is elected at-large. I know the names of most but can't spell them.
7. Next election is the primary in September.
8. I'm VBM.
9. 11 electoral votes. (9 house + 2 senate) We used to be a swing state but now we're "likely blue", exceptional circumstances aside(like 1994). It helps the GOP here is mostly incompetent.
10. My boss.

2. I ♥ Jim McDermott like woah. He's all kinds of fabulous.

3. Isn't Cantwell considered something of a DINO? I still like her.

8 & 10 - and that's why you rock. ;)

Cantwell's a little more business/tech friendly but I wouldn't call her a DINO. She mainly gets flack for voting yes on the Iraq War and CAFTA though no one gives her credit for voting against the bankruptcy bill.

And if she's a DINO for those two votes(Murray also voted yes on CAFTA), a lot more Democrats would have to be considered DINOs.

Overall voting record wise, she's solidly in the middle of the Democratic pack.

Colorado 4th CD, Marilyn Musgrave (*ptooie!*) and NEXT YEAR she is SO GONE if I have anything to do with it, Ken Salazar is the Jr Senator who just got in and woss-face, the Republican is 2008 I think.

Governor Bill Owens, Lt I'm not sure and we JUST got a new Attorney General because the old one got a US level appointment.

Our town mayor is the Republican who used to be our State Rep. I don't live in town, so no City Council rep, and our Board of Commissioners doesn't work that way.

We are having an election in November to try to revise a horrible Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) that is hurting our state pretty bad. The good news, lots of bipartisan support.

I know where I vote, and we were almost a swing state. Despite our electoral votes going for Bush, the Dems took the state back in most districts, and things are much less dire than they were last year.

Our state Democratic Chair is Pat Waak, and our local group is the Prowers County Democrats. I am the Web Wonk in charge of your pathetically non-updated web page....

Hey, my sister is in Colorado! Aurora, which I think is District 7.

Despite our electoral votes going for Bush, the Dems took the state back in most districts, and things are much less dire than they were last year.

*nods* I think Colorado can go back for Dems next election, or at least keep narrowing the gap. I think Bush won by 5% less in 2004 than 2000, right?

Oooh, I should probably answer these myself, huh? luna_k August 25 2005, 22:02:21 UTC
I hope I get all these right.

1. 8th
2. Jim Moran (D), 2006
3. Junior is George Allen (R), up in 2006. He'll probably get re-elected, and then go on to the Presidential race in 2008. *shudder* Senior is John Warner (R), up in 2007
4. Mark Warner(D), Tim Kaine(D) and Jerry Kilgore(R). Kaine & Kilgore are both running for Governor this year
5. Ken Plum and Janet Howell, both democrats
6. No mayor, but Gerald Connoley (D) is Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, and my Board of Sup Rep is a black female Democrat from Reston... wtf is her name? Dammit.
7. Governor & local elections, November 8th - 2 1/2 months away. I should know how many days but I can't count.
8. The elementary school across the street. I'm very lucky.
9. 13, and we're considered a "solid red state".
10. Gah, I know it and can't remember the name. He just got elected a couple months ago. My local org is the Arlington Young Democrats. :)
