Forget about the Champions League this year

I actually was of a better opinion of Lutsenko. Now, I see why several consecutive coaching staffs did not trust him. To be absolutely frank, he only made one mistake - when he went out late to meet the corner ball. The other two goals were of high quality. He had a chance to save them, but not a very big chance. Just caught up with the last two days of Champions League action. Also watched (finally) Dynamo's match against Real - it all looked, for lack of better description, tentative at first and panicked later. But I don't assume it was necessarily the same problem with Lyon...

Not much I can comment about Shakhtar's match yesterday. David Villa of Valencia is on fire at the moment, both at home and in the CL. :/ Maybe it's just the way the reports are written, but Tymoschuk has looked quiet since Scotland.

Tymoschuk is not a creative type. He is a leader with very good defensive qualities. Why people expect creativity or dangerous passing from him is beyond me. He has always been all about cementing the midfield, breaking up opponents' attacks, and an occasional thudding volley from 25 or 30 meters out.

As for Lutsenko, I just saw the first goal. I thought he positioned himself wrong.

Dynamo - Lyon match showed that teams on the field were of different class. It showed in scoring chances. Lyon took care of theirs, Dynamo screwed up on theirs.

Maybe because he is a kind of totem for Ukrainian football. Am I right in saying that? So there are greater expectations tacked onto him (realistic or otherwise). And precisely because of those long range shots you mentioned, people begin to see him in an attacking role as well as a holding role.

Veering off-topic, I was glad to see Shevchenko score his 2nd goal in the EPL last night, capping an all-round excellent performance. Good morale booster for everybody.
