Apparently the government thinks it can screw with me and I'll just take it. But I'm tired of it. So this time I'm fighting ( Read more... )

I'm currently on disability and am unable to work; despite this student loans is demanding that I pay them over 600$/month. How the hell they expect that to happen I don't know, but they think that reducing me to tears with every phone call is going to help, apparently. I've stopped answering the phone now. I find it ridiculous that they don't have some sort of plan to help people on disability--obviously, by granting disability the gov't is agreeing that the individual is unable to work.

Basically, they are not getting a dime, and meanwhile I'm lobbying to get some kind of program for people on disability put in place. It can't be that hard.

I understand. That is ridiculous. Have you exhausted all of you interest relief yet? I am being hounded by Student Loans myself, I just don't have the $800 a month that paying all 4 portions of my student loan each month would require. They told me that paying rent is a choice and doesn't calculate into their equation when they decide if my income in high enough to afford these payments. So now I don't have a job and would qualify for interest relief but guess what? I am $800 behind on this one portion so they won't grant it to me. :( Sorry, I got sidetracked there, I completely agree, if you can't work then where the hell do they think the money is going to come from. Disability pays crap. Good Luck

I have used up interest relief unfortunately... that's what comes of getting a degree that doesn't really help you and ending up in "minimum income" retail jobs for years. And I understand about what you are talking about there, because there are apparently a few things I could apply for (they wouldn't help me much, but would cut things down a little), except that I can't apply for them unless my loans are in good standing. Which means I have to pay 1000$ or something first. Yeah right.

Give'm hell, writing letters does a much better job getting the point across to politicians than a bunch of people sitting around protesting and taking hits from the bongpipe.
