At some point within the last twenty-four hours, I've received my first bad review for Sing to Me, My Precious Angel. It reads as follows ( Read more... )

And reviewers: Please refrain from capslocking.

Oh yes, I've had people blatantly telling me how they wanted me to write the story. I wanted to respond with "Write your own gotdamn story instead of writing mine for me!" but I refrained. Looking back, I should've said, "I like your writing, why don't you write a story with that plot? I'd love to read it." Then I'd've somewhat addressed the issue and maybe spurred someone to write.

I still get a little annoyed that a story I cranked out in about forty-five minutes or less and don't really like gets rave reviews and recs but ones that I spent time and effort on get zip. I always state that I bottom-line write for myself but feedback is nice-- but you reminded me that I can't please everyone so now the annoyance is fading. Thanks! ^_^

I think it helps to be reminded of that. I've been posting at Gurabite lately (stuff that I have ready but haven't taken to ff.net yet) and most of the reviews have been complimenting me on my work. That's just a reminder that I can't please everyone. In fact, I'm liable to piss some people off for having a favourite character raped/mutilated/whatever.

It's nice to have that reminder. :) It helps to prepare me for the rejection letters I'm sure to receive once I start submitting original material to publishers.
