Loved the little conversations in between x'DD And why can't Julia just lose for once!? Apparently another Mako-dunking is in order.

The conversations were a lot of fun to write. I'm even thinking of turning Julia's RL dad into a character.

Don't worry, she'll start losing almost constantly in the final 15 or so chapters of this fic. The story will jump from Julia and Sephiroth winning every damn time to them losing every damn time. I hope I can make it that far.

More fun facts from my time in boot camp; You were not allowed to apologize or thank one another. You'd get blasted for it.
Also if any self-respecting Instructor in basic training/boot camp were to hear a recruit say "Ouchies" said recruit would NEVER be able to live it down.

And no self-respecting military branch would ever stoop low enough to use paintball to teach their recruits how to shoot. Paintballs and bullets are two different things!

I think they were, but I'd ask Lian for the final say on it.

I know she's a big fan, and incidentally we did our own Growing Up Cullen tribute called Growing Up Nakahamou, which is full of GUC style dialogue as well as spitefics and random stuff written for laughs. Its linked to on the index page as well.

Indeed they were! I discovered Growing Up Cullen while sporking and couldn't help myself. It is awesome and hilarious and the only things that can compare are Cleolinda's Twilight film recaps.

I hate "sparring" with live steel. Especially this unregulated actual competition. The fact that they're using giant swords only makes it worse. And she never explains what "ends" a battle. It appears to be first blood, but using the buster swords, first blood is likely to be a crippling - if not lethal - blow.

At the end of the day, I imagine that half of the recruits will be missing a limb.
