The AmigaOS lives on! It's up to 4.1 now. But is there any point today?

I am told it's lovely to use. Sadly, it only runs on obscure PowerPC-based kit that costs a couple of thousand pounds and can be out-performed by
a £300 PC.

I believe that there was a similar position with the hardware. The original chipset was so tightly tied to the processor that neither was particularly easy to upgrade without breaking compatibility. By the time hardware had advanced to the stage that their behaviour could be safely replicated *and* sufficiently advanced new functionality implemented at the same time at a reasonable cost, Amiga was bust and Wintel was the only game in town.
