It's lean, mean and fast, but TBH I think it's a bit more hands-on and maintenance-heavy than I possibly really need. Not sure.
And Xfce is the conventional desktop I dislike the least, rather than the one I like the most, which for all its detractors is Unity. Probably because it makes Linux more Mac-like.
Also this weekend, I've discovered how to reinstate Pidgin's status icon (because I don't like the Empathy IM client & removed it), and how to remove the Message Menu, which I don't really use. Both these things work synergistically and make me happier.
I also replace Files with Nemo, although Files in 14.04 is a bit better than in 13.10.
I am overcoming the niggles. I miss the window-dodging Dock, though. (Launcher. Thing. YKWIM.)
I wonder how much slower it'll feel once your whole toolset's on there? I've not tried many distros, but so far *everything* that seems snappy at first starts to crawl once you've loaded your apps and given it a few months to do its regular updating. )-:
