Phone to Val

Call me when you get this...okay. Marcus had no idea what the blond boy could want with him at the moment but there was only one way to find out. Marcus flopped onto the couch and hit the callback feature on his cellphone, listening as the number rang through.

Wondering what his friend wanted.

Val checked the caller id then flipped the phone open and held it up. "Hey Marcus- thanks for calling me back man. I was just - I was wondering what's up and so on...."

Oh way to beat around the bush, he admonished himself. But it wasn't like he could just open with 'so, is it true you're being all jerky to your girlfriend' or some such like that. It wouldn't help at all. "I'm still down in New Orleans, but thought we could catch up."

Catch up on a Saturday night while he was actually in New Orleans? Wow. Marcus bit back a sarcastic remark about leading a dull life and shrugged instead. Swinging his feet up onto the coffee table, the teen let out a soft sigh, careful to not actually breathe right into the receiver and thus Val's ear. "Thankful spring break is here, my cousin will be coming to hang out for a week and that means I won't have to rely on Charlene the pain in the ass for entertainment."

Nice.

"How's you?"

"I have in fact been better," Valentine admitted. "I am kind of worried about a number of things right now - and one of them is concerning you and Chuck."

Blurting it out. He was just going to say it, and if Marcus hung up on him, or didn't want to talk to him a while after - well. That would be that. But he had to know, because it was making him a little crazy thinking about it.

"Now I know this is kind of none of my business and you would be entirely justified in telling me to butt the hell out Val - but what is going on? With you, and your girlfriend and -- all that. I know there's got to be some other side of the story, because god-damn it does not sound good from way Chuck's told and I do not want to believe that about you, I don't..."

"Oh for fuck's..." He didn't quite let Val finish before his swearing began and he sat up, feet off the table and squarely on the floor again. "She really is a nosy little bi--"

Marcus cut of his tirade before he said too much, at least having the presence of mind to realize that Val didn't know him or Chuck that well and certainly didn't need to listen to one friend call the other a slew of names. Val could decide for himself what he thought of Chuck.

"You're right. It's not your business but Chuck seems to think it's hers and therefore everyone else's too. Hi, I'm Marcus and I'm an asshole." He was angry, actually and it came out as sarcasm which was possibly better than throwing an actual fit. "Except if you ask my girlfriend, she'll tell you I'm not. At least Laura didn't think so last night."

Marcus stopped to let Val process that.
