In my grandest show of senioritis yet, I've just signed up for Badminton as a one-credit course to bump me into the 12 credit minimum for a fulltime student. This gets sillier if you're aware that I already know how to play badminton pretty well even if I haven't touched a racket in some eight years oh my god has it really been that longI am so, so ( Read more... )

What are credits? It seems odd to me that you need to do sport to prove yourself a student? We don't have such a system in the UK at Uni, I'm quite confused!
Ah badminton, that brings back memories, I used to play it at school (er, school as in where children go to learn not college, I played as a child) I was pretty good at it too.

You go and beat them all, slippery boots and all!

Credits sorta represent how much a class is worth. Like the badminton class is 1 credit, but my thesis seminar is 4 credits. The average class is 3 credits (assuming you're not in science where lab components generally add
extra credits). If you're a parttime student you usually pay tuition based on how manu credits you're taking, and a full time student is expected to take 12-18.

I honestly have no idea why physical education (thats what we call these sort of classes) are required here. They're pretty often offered at uni but not often required. I believe they're offered because Americans are big on athleticism even/especially for students, but that's just a guess. The uni says it's meant to promote a healthy lifestyle. Most of the options we have aren't sports but more stuff like yoga, weight training, self defense, etc.

eta: haha i will beat em all next time with TENNIS SHOES! ...er. as in i will have tennis shoes, not that ill beat them up with tennis shoes.

You've reminded me that I ought to get my finger out and investigate the possibility of doing yoga at my uni, although even though I am a part-time post-grad student, I'll get no credit for it. I just happen to like yoga.

I remember in high school badminton, you hit my hand with the racket so hard you put two fingers out of commission for a while. The bruises were yellow and purple and blue.

Good times. :D
