I was shown this interesting article by my father-in-law.

It describes an atheist who writes how -- despite remaining fully convinced that there is no god -- believes that missionaries who proselytize (in addition to providing medicine and food, etc.) are a good thing and that no government or non-government organization is comparable in its ( Read more... )

Have you ever seen Beyond the Gates of Splendor? It's a great documentary-style movie about missionaries who saved a tribe from self-destruction who would murder one another constantly. It's been a while since I've seen it, and I know some of my views have changed since then, but I think I'd still really like it.

No, I've not seen that film, but I am very familiar with the story, and I've seen "End of the Spear," which is sort of a sequel (but not a documentary) made by the same people and is about one of the sons of the missionaries. I think BtGoS is in my Netflix queue.
