Back for our third year running!
Just as we did last year and the year before, we'll be reccing fun LGBTQ-themed media (books and movies and tv shows and comic books and radio shows and short stories and anything else) here throughout the month of June. Interested in reccing some favorites in the next few weeks? Sign up and participate! Just want to watch? Join or watch the community. Hopefully we'll all get to enjoy some queer-themed stories we might not have discovered otherwise.
Want to rec? Here's what you'll do:
* Read through the ground rules, caveats, and sign-up instructions.
* Sign up if you're interested.
* Join the comm.
* Post your recs to the comm on the dates you're assigned. Post to your journal, too, if you'd like.
The ground rules:
* Rec just *one* item per post, one post per day on the days you're assigned.
* Anything works: books, movies, music, websites, fiction, non-fiction, children's and young adult's books, academic articles, non-academic articles, television shows, you name it.
* You make the call on what LGBTQ-themed means. We trust you!
* No duplicates. If someone before you nabs something, please make another choice. Check the master lists from
June 2009 and
June 2008 to make sure your item hasn't been recced previously.
And a few caveats:
* Please label adult-themed material appropriately. This community is not age-restricted, so you should assume your audience includes underage readers.
* Bonus points for recs having to do with gender identity and trans themes; people of color; issues of class; disability; and women. ETA: Also, recs having to do with older folks and LGBTQ folks outside the US and the UK! (Help us out and remind us if we're forgetting any topics that might be underrepresented?)
* It goes without saying, but please be respectful in your treatment of the material and of the recs your fellow members make.
Sign up by commenting to this post with the following information:
1. The number of recs you'd like to make (a range, like "one," "one to three," or "as many as there are slots available").
2. The days of month you can post (specific times you can and can't post, like "any time in June" or "any time before the 21st;" remember I'll assign you sequential days).
3. Special claims: any special recs you'd really, really like to do ("I want to do Celluloid Closet!").
Here's a text box if you like that sort of thing:
1. The number of recs you'd like to make:
2. The times of month you can post:
3: Special claims:
Next steps:
* Please promote this on your journals! We'd love to see these recs reaching a large audience.
* We'll keep an eye on sign-ups and reply to you when we get a schedule worked out.
Sign-ups close at 12:00 noon EST on Saturday, May 29. Start planning your recs!
