Hothead Paisan is a fun, biting cult comic by American writer and artist Diane DiMassa (b. 1959). The title character is a "homicidal lesbian terrorist" who goes on caffeine-induced murderous rampages to wreak vengeance on rapists and sexists and racists and just generally to right the wrongs all women have felt at one time or another as members of a patriarchal, unjust society. Written from 1991-1996, the comic is gloriously politically incorrect and more than a little gory -- but in the best of subversive ways. (As one reviewer says, "Not for the faint of heart or the satire-challenged.") I sometimes feel that the author is reaching a little too much, or trying a little too hard (and not all the jokes work for me), but overall, Hothead Paisan is a satisfying, hilarious, terrifying read.
