This is gorgeous. I loved it. Apart from being a really good fic, it was exactly the kind of thing I needed today, too. I'm just back from a bookstore where I asked a clerk whether the company had any plans of including gay interest anytime in the future. I was given a funny look, crappy service and a very confused "No." Half an hour later, I tried to chat up a pretty woman at the bus stop. She turned out to be straight. I think she thought I was giving her funny looks for being black (I can hardly say, "Sorry, it's just that you have gorgeous legs," no? Not without her giving me funny looks.) Geez. It's the small things that get to you some days. But you probably didn't want to hear any of this. Just meaning to say, I came home and read your fic. And now I'm happy. Thank you very much for that ( ... )

::hugs for your lousy day::

Thanks so much. I'm really glad this hit the spot for you- that makes me feel good. You can't ask for much more as a writer than to influence some, even if it just cheers them up. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I really read this as a fic of Gaeta trying to regain control over his life. Helping those boys is a way to achieve that.

This is exactly what I was going for, so it delighted me to no end to read this. :) I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

And I'm glad you enjoyed Jake, too. He was kind of fun to write. Someone on NC without significant angst!

Oh, wow. wow. wow. That was beautiful and heartbreaking just like you do. I love, love, love the idea of Felix being a mentor.

Felix is a comic book geek! YES.

Oh, wow. Only you could take a Gaeta/Jake challenge and turn it into so many different levels of amazing.

Everything worked so well. The kids- I really liked those kids. It was sweet the way they bonded over Gaeta's "affair" with Jake- I loved every interaction involving that relationship. It made me giggle.

And the Eight. How do I begin with the Eight? Felix believing in what they were doing even as he didn't trust her completely.

Plus, the whole issue of Saggittarons and homosexuality... In case you hadn't notice ( ;) ) gay rights is sort of my big cause, so I loved Felix helping the boys be ok with themselves.

The end. You and your ends. It was sweet and painful and so very, very right. It kind of made me hurty, too, to think that after Felix died, that little piece of paper didn't mean anything to anyone anymore.

Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it- I've been dying to post this one for a while. I'm glad you liked the kids, too. I wanted to just hug them both.

And ouch, yeah, you're right about the piece of paper. ::SNIFF:: Thanks again! :)

This was a wonderful story, especially the relationship between Gaeta and the kids. It felt very natural, and the ending was a perfect tribute to them. Thank you for writing this!

Yay! You posted! I really liked the way you reworked the ending, it packed such a dramatic punch. The "Didn't you see them?" line still gives me chills! This fic is full of triumphs and tragedy; the joy of Felix finding friendship on New Caprica and giving sexual liberation to the two boys, mixed with the horror of the boys being captured and killed, with Felix desperate to save them and unknowingly dooming them. So hurty!

This is a great entry for this challenge. Just as the boys are experiencing sexual awakening, Felix is experiencing sexual degradation - after his failed relationships with Gaius and the teacher who died, now he's reduced to frakking a female cylon, seduced only by the hope of making things better on the planet. It seems fitting that the core 'romance' of the story is between Felix and a dog, because Felix himself is treated as sub-human by pretty much everyone, yet he remains as loyal and loving as Jake is.

Thank you, and thank you SO MUCH for your suggestions about the ending. when I read them, I KNEW they were right. I owe ya :)

::SNIFF:: Go and break my heart with my own story, why don't you? :) I love that comparison, though. Thank you!!!!
