On this day

My ballot was the 144th deposited into the box at my precinct. The polling place had about 10 booths, and 8 were occupied when I got there, with several people coming in after me at 9:15. There were quite a few notations in the registrar list of Early Voting (AZ has an absentee ballot for the asking ( Read more... )

There was an early voting place at the University, so I got to vote on my lunch break two weeks ago. Friends that went to vote there last week said the lines were so long it would have made them late for work/meetings/class. Lots of people at work did the 6 a.m. voting thing! \o/

I actually deliberately decided to vote on the day -- I was pretty sure my polling place would not be super busy. I took a book in case it was, though.

I haven't seen what the overall turnout was, but I'm sure it was up!

In the past I've gotten an absentee ballot to fill out at home, and then carried it in to my polling place to drop off to get that "day of" hit, but this year I just wanted to get my vote IN! Plus, I was pretty sure my polling lace would be busy--it's a dense, active precinct.

Looks like Pima County had a 64% turnout of registered voters--and over half of the voters voted early!

I was watching CNN, and they were just waiting for the hour mark to call it. You could tell that they had done the math at least 45min/half an hour before, but were not going to actually say anything definite until CA-OR-WA-HI closed the polls officially.

So cool & wonderful.

We did it. We really really did.

Also wanted to thank you for writing and posting the poem above. Guess I'm all emotional or something tonight, but it actually made me tear up when I read it, about an hour before it was announced that Barack had won. *dabs at tears of joy and hope*

Awww. There has been a whole lot about this election that was moving & touching & emotionally engaging. I'm glad it spoke to you like that.

...and now we put on our get-the-job-done clothes & help make the hope & promise & possibility into reality.
