On the wall of the Starry Plough in Berkeley is a quote about how when a cause has caught the imagination of the people, the people make songs that draw in more people and express feelings in ways that mere words cannot (this is very much a paraphrase. I would love to find the actual quote.)

It occurred to me, while watching this:

Thank you for this. Can I hide here? I'm still reeling from a blast of vitriol in a friend's journal about how she would never vote for someone who wants to "redistribute the wealth." She's worked hard for her money and there are deadbeats out there who don't deserve to get anything, and if she wants to give money to charity, she'll give it where she chooses. ::sigh:: This is a cyber friend of mine. Someone who sent me sassafras root from her own yard when I wanted to brew original root beer. Reading her post made me feel sick.

Thank you so much for posting this video - Watched it twice for the squeals & giggles. Living as I do in a VERY pro-Obama state where just about everyone I know is voting blue, I'm sometimes caught by surprise when folks I've met on-line say things like, "I'm a feminist so I'm voting for Palin," or comments like those of the friend of the poster above. These are people I really LIKE and I know the ethical thing to do is to respond civilly, try to engage in rational discussion on the points and policies, etc. But I often find myself too wary these days, having been caught in irrational on-line flame-wars in the past ( ... )
