Keep in mind that with a new car you need to break in the engine and the brakes. It's less important than it used to be to do so, but it's still a good idea. I'd suggest avoiding freeway speeds for more than 15 minutes at a time. Also avoid excessive and hard braking. Do this for the first 300 miles or so, and you will find that you will get a longer lifespan for your vehicle.

Thank you -- good to know. As it happens, I can avoid the freeway entirely to do the drive I am thinking of, though not state routes/highways. By freeway speed do you mean anything 55+ or 65+?

Try to keep it at or under 55 for the first couple of hundred miles.
