My minor irritation at my man quickly melted away when I went out the door with the kids to discover SNOW!!! coming down in New Orleans! We now have about a 1/2 inch of snow on the ground. SNOW! It is supposed to keep snowing until 2 or 3pm, big, heavy, sticky flakes of SNOW! Earliest measurable snow fall for New Orleans! Kids are over joyed! I ( Read more... )

That is both seriously cool and seriously UNFAIR - we haven't had any significant snow cover yet!!!

One of my favorite memories from childhood is living in San Antonio and getting out of school for what had to be less than 1/2" of snow, but very clearly most of the kids in my neighborhood (largely hispanic immigrants) had never seen it. There's just something exceptionally joyful about snow in a place where it's very much not expected, from a child's point of view anyway.

No, trust me, there is something exceptionally joyful about snow in New Orleans, from EVERYONE'S point of view. You could hear people whooping and laughing all over town. First it was just our neighbors as we were heading out to school, but then as we crossed town Eli and Gussie kept laughing because at every stop light we'd hear people shrieking and laughing about the snow.
