All kinds of shit went wrong. The art wasn't terribly interesting. The sand dunes were beach like (yes worse than last year). We overplanned but had too many people drop out to execute well. There were white outs during setup and teardown. It was overcrowded even on Monday. Our vehicle possibly requires major work now. We gave up and left 6 ( Read more... )

7 years here, and yes - the art was rather underwhelming, and the playa surface was the worst i'd seen it (my poor folding bike's tires were much too narrow to keep from collapsing through the soft surface).

the whiteouts are just something you have to prepare for with good goggles and masks (i use a bandanna). our camp had a nice chill afternoon during the monday whiteout socializing and drinking.

From talking to DPW/Planning people I randomly met, a lot of the conditional problems were the result of 6 years of drought in the region. I don't have much to compare to since it was my first burn, but I definitely had a really good time. I'm guessing you didn't get to see Tantalus since you left before the Man burned and I hear they didn't get that exhibit working until that night, but yea... That shit was rad.
