Throwing off the curve, as usual

Things that make you realize you're pretty far outside the bounds of what's considered normal and average: coming across a blog post titled "How To Read a Book a Week" and realizing that a more useful article for you would be titled "How to Read No More than One Book a Week So You Can Actually Get Other Stuff Done (By Which We Do Not Mean 'More ( Read more... )

reading, books, funny

Yeah! Which is also part of why I LISTEN to books... I am lucky in that I can do that and do other things at the same time. Otherwise... I would need to read that un-written second article you mention!

I keep trying to motivate myself to get the sewing machine accessible by reminding myself that I can listen to audiobooks while I sew.

Hot diggety, the Oakland Library has The Game as a downloadable audiobook, so it doesn't matter that their set of 16 tapes is only 15 at this point. (I swear all the tapes were there when I returned it, scout's honor.)

Don't forget, there are dozens (hundreds, really, but dozens that I have found to be good!) of free books on Podiobooks.com, and great stories on PodCastle, (fantasy) and Escape Pod science fiction) ... There are also some free downloads on LightSpeed magazine online.

I never lack for free listening online... now, I have to go and find The Game!

"I broke this down to 40 pages a day, which I read early on so I can get it over with. It’s an easy, manageable goal, which doesn’t seem nearly so daunting as 52 books in a year."

Two books a week is good for me: it means I have not spent even more time reading and might have cooked or vacuumed or done some laundry. Sadly, I do not often meet this goal.

The idea that reading is something to "get it over with"... this planet you come from, is life carbon-based there?

I once worked under someone who was amazed at how many (technical job-related) books I wanted to expense. He openly and proudly said that he read maybe one book a year.

While I worked there, he read.. Dan Brown.
