Galactica 4 convention

Okay,

as promised a short recap of the BSG con I attended last weekend.
First of all getting to and from the con was quite a hassle, and here I thought getting to the Expos in the docklands was hard. “Hurray” on the improvements on the underground that make weekend travel a B-I-T-C-H (yes the sarcasm is deliberate).

I am still amazed that many of the people, who staffed this con, who are also there at every Expo that I have worked for years, seem incapable of recalling my person. Well I guess I am kind of invisible.

The con itself was tiny, literally. When I first arrived, I though I was at the wrong place since there were no indications outside at all. There were a total of around 140-150 people attending. Felt like we all would have fitted into a living room somewhere. This was also the first con since 1997 where I had no work to do at all, it felt kind of odd but also kind of nice.

So lets see who was there (goes digging for her con schedule print since we all know how good with names I am):

Jamie Bamber (Apollo)
Rick Worthy (Simon)
Luciana Carro (Kat)
Callum Keith Rennie (Leoben)

All as of 4.10 living characters tried their best not to spoil anything at all so the questions became broader in the end, they were all asked if they felt their characters where “resolved” at the end, and all 3 said yes they did. So I guess there will be closure at the end of the series not just for the main characters but also for the others. I like that thought, loads of character development, yeah!

The funniest part (for the most part, partially it was also kind of ridiculous, but than I am not so much a fan of physical comedy as we all know) was the “Whose line is it anyway” event on Sunday. Scenes re-played with different actors taking pre-established roles. This time, all scences where from previous seasons of Galactica. The award for best performance definitely goes to Luciana Carro’s three year old impersonation of Admiral Cain: “We are at war, plär, and I am higher ranking so I get to say how we play with the ships” stomps foot.

Jamie Bamber’s assigning of call signs to fellow cast members also got a few loud laughs, so let’s see if I remember.
The Starbuck actress would be “me,me” since she is self-centred, the actor who plays the Chief would be “the grinch”, since he is apparently always grumpy on set, Helo was “the pout” for I think obvious reasons. There was one more but I cannot recall it right now.

As per usual I proved again, that I do not have the foggiest as to what else actors have done unless the looked exactly the same. For the whole weekend I was flabbergast by the shear amount of dog questions (with no show mentioned since everybody seemed to assume that much was obvious) asked of the Leoben actor, only to then be surrounded by loads of people with Due South boxsets during the autograph session on Sunday. Guess I must have blanked that out. In terms of the Simon actor, I always thought his voice sounded familiar but could not place it, well As I learned this weekend the guy seems to have lived in Paramount’s Star Trek make up section, considering the amount of aliens he played.

Other than that there were mostly the usual questions about acting, writing, personal preferences in media. Funny story requests etc, nothing really out of the ordinary.
