Admitting to myself that I can no longer do this work is perhaps the worst thing to happen to my sleep habits since my ex tried to kill me in my sleep. For the last 3 nights, I have been unable to keep the flood of cases out of my dreams. I have been cursed with a fairly good memory and have very little difficulty discussing any major case I have ( Read more... )

Man, I am so sorry :( Your job has got to be one of the most difficult and haunting careers. Although it's not easy, try to keep in mind the children you helped, whose lives you saved.

You might try some guided meditations to get you to sleep. I have a CD here I can lend you if you want to give it a shot.

It's not surprising that you are going through this. It might help to try and focus on the children you have rescued. Meditating on the good you have done may mitigate some of the feelings you are dealing with now.

I think you are very strong for knowing when it is time to step back from the job. To me, that's harder than going into it. Just know that you have helped, really helped; and now you need to take care of yourself for a while.
