History Paper

Ok I need some suggestions please.
I have to write a 3 page paper on some historical event, person or invention from the 20th or 21st century.
I want to do it on something or someone interesting with lots to write about cause I hate writing papers and I am horrible at it.
Anything you think of that might be interesting to write about tell me.

The most fascinating thing I ever learned about (historically) was the reality behind the Emancipation Proclamation. Everyone and all the history books hold Abe Lincoln up as a hero for freeing the slaves. But he didn't. Because what he ordered was for all the slaves in the south to be freed. But at the time, the south considered itself a separate country. So it didn't change anything. It'd be like some other country passing laws in their country mandating what we do here. It'd be a joke. Not to mention that since he specified it was to be the slaves only from the souths, the ones in the north weren't freed.
