What the hell is a jinxing?

While some wizards practice alchemy, jinxing is a very different matter. It's a form of spell designed to bring misfortune of some sort upon the one it's casted upon.

...if you know about alchemy, why is it that you don't even know about basic jinxes?

That sounds kind of mean, it really can't be a form of alchemy after all. Alchemy is a science, it's not something silly and made up like magic.

Alchemy can be considered a science, yes, but it still takes and is closely linked to magic.

And magic is not 'silly' or 'made up.' I happen to practice it myself.
