My own tribute was very similar. I especially love that video of the lunar lander simulator. It takes real gumption to put that aside, pack yourself on top of the most powerful rocket that man's ever built, and give the real thing a shot.
(I'm also quietly relieved that I wasn't the only one who noticed that inaccuracy in Men in Black III. 8) )
I also noticed with some unhappiness that there's a corresponding dip in the 5th percentile case on that XKCD comic about the remaining lifespans of those who walked on the moon.
Yes, I remember that strip, and I too thought about it.
Armstrong wasn't just brave, he was extraordinarily calm and cool about such things. I remember a story about him by a fellow astronaut: He was back in his office (adjacent to the storyteller) for a few days, and involved in several conversations, when word filtered in about the trainer crash and Neil's narrow escape.
Neil Armstrong hadn't even bothered to mention it.
