I hope all those example emails were by ESL students, because I can hardly comprehend why someone would write so much worse than they spoke.
Having worked harder than most students (at least in high school), I'm rather sore that these students got as far as they did. Unless they never submit their own writing, their teachers/profs should've figured out they were cheating. 'Course, in the biggest classes, the profs might have trouble remembering individual personae.
From what I've seen, I would be sadly unsurprised to find them speaking English, after a fashion, as their only language.
It's not entirely ignorance. It is trendy to communicate like that. Look at the popularity of "I Can Has ..." on many sites, and the distorted communication those sites have given rise to.
Not exactly -- it is just that this is the way they've learned to write, and as it is "normal" to them, there may be only a distant perception that anything else is ever required.
As a sixth grade teacher in the inner city, I don't think I'd have seen this guy's work, but I still honestly had no idea that there even was such an industry.
