H50 – music & bookstore AU. Steve/Danny, eventually. 1/?deepbluemermaidOctober 27 2011, 08:44:37 UTC
This is my loving tribute to a shop where I worked part-time for five years. It sells CDs (jazz, world music, local artists, and the biggest classical selection in my country), high quality books, and DVDs. It’s an iconic establishment, run by the same family since 1948, and it was a truly wonderful place to work.

Thanks so much! I should add that Steve is not a Mary Sue, despite this instance of wish fulfillment - I resisted the temptation to write an analogue of myself into the story.
This AU fest of yours is fantastic, by the way! The idea for this story bit me this morning, when I read your post, and I've already written 2,000 words and counting...

Oh, Steve definitely reads true, don't worry (and we could probably have a long talk about how Steve McGarrett is, himself, Peter Lenkov's Mary Sue) and I can' twait to read more of this.

Heh, thank you. Part 4 is now up, and Danny is scheduled to make his belated appearance in part 5. I'm actually not sure how I'm going to get them together, after that, but hopefully inspiration will strike!

In the music section, old Mr. Anderson is comparing multiple versions of Porgy and Bess at the listening station. He calls out a too-loud question to Chin, a mistake most people make while using the headphones. Nearby, two jazz students are arguing about which Thelonious Monk album to buy

WHY WOULD I MIND THIS IS FANTASTICALLY AWESOME!?! *g*
Seriously, sweets, don't fret--I am enjoying the hell out of this, and hurt!Steve pushes my buttons like whoa, so, yes, very much, to everything. Keep writing, pleeeeease?

The painkillers have kicked in, now, so standing up is bad but not agonizing. Steve grabs the cane propped against the desk and walks around the main floor for a while. Chin watches him go, lips pursed in sympathy, then calls for Kono to come downstairs and mind Steve’s desk.
Steve limps in a familiar circuit, tidying shelves, putting new or eye-catching books face-out, and re-arranging table displays. As usual, he saves his favorite corner of the store for last: children’s literature.
The picture books are in a mess, so Steve sits on the carpet with his right leg stretched out and starts imposing alphabetical order again. As his hands follow the simple routine, his mind is free to wander

If I couldn't work there I woudl want to shop there. I'm a lbirarian who loves reading shelves so It'd be tempted to push steve aside and alphbetize the books myself but I really would not do that.

Hee, a kindred spirit! I'm a librarian too, or used to be, and I often fix displays in bookstores and libraries. But yeah, God help you if you interfere with Steve's domain :)
Part 4 is imminent, and Danny is waiting in the wings...
