FIC: Things Already Done

Jan 28, 2009 04:47

Once upon a time, I wrote a fanfic for this show.  People seemed to dig it, so I wrote another.

TITLE:  Things Already Done
(alternate link @ AO3)
FANDOM:  Californication
SUMMARY:  She was having a drink with Hank, and only Hank; something unusual in and of itself.
CHARACTER(S)/PAIRING(S):  Marcy, Hank; slight Hank/Marcy overtones.
SOUNDTRACK:  .. ( Read more... )

fanfic: californication, tv: californication, art: fanart

This is *so* in character, I`m impressed.

It`s great to read something from Marcy's perspective and about her emotional life - you approached this really well and wow, it must have been a challenge. I mean, these characters are so exceptional and complex and there is so much room for interpretation that it must be really difficult to portray them in a fanfiction.
Good job girl, seriously!
And I love, love, LOVE your descriptions of Hanky....

he had a way of getting in her space too easily and lounging around like a great big cat, inviting someone to come and pet him.

So fitting!

I miss Cali so badly right now.....
And why isn`t there more fanfiction for it?! -.-

So, thank you very much for posting this.....and please stop cowering in your bed, there is absolutely no need. ;)

Wow, thank you so much for the lovely feedback! I was hoping for in character, but I wasn't sure if I was going to hit that mark or not. So far I'm hearing good things though, which is definitely encouraging!

It was definitely a challenge and entertaining at the same time to try and take a different angle on all the things we do know because... let's face it, there are still plenty of holes (sometimes gaping ones) in these characters' stories, and poking fingers into things like that can be a lot of fun.

Writing Hank from a female perspective (particularly since I hadn't had a chance to do that with the other fic) was definitely fun, I'll just say that. ;)

I have no idea why there's like NO Cali fic out there! I still haven't found any others, and believe me, I've looked. It's certainly deserving, dammit!

Yes I`ve looked (desperately) too. That`s really weird, I mean I`ve always thought that this show is predestined for being written about in fanfiction.
But well, you can now consider yourself the one and only author of Cali fanfiction! :)

Oh, I'm definitely not the only one! Just one of, like, three total, lol. Keep an eye on hankmoodyblues and hell_a_magazine, at least that's something!

I love your artwork for fics. And your dedication to not only write fic but to actually play with images for the sake of said fic.

I think you are mistaken, however, in thinking that it's not worth it. This was quite good. Any fic that has the phrase "a lingering penchant for introspection" deserves artwork ^-^

Thank you! This is definitely not the best one I've made, but I do still like it. (I'm just not so sure it's dedication that comes from... maybe craziness and boredom? ;D) I'm also glad you liked the fic as well.

I'm just surprised you find time to do all this! Truly shows your dedication XD

Heh, I get into this place where I've got the idea started, and then I just can't stop until it's finished (it usually becomes a pain in the ass that I hate somewhere in the middle). Such is the life of someone with too much fandom time on their hands!

Somehow, things had been less complex when a porno film crew had been disassembling her living room and freaking out her neighbors.big lol!!! That is one (of the many) the reason I love so much this tv show, the crazyness ( ... )

Yes, it's definitely a wild and crazy show. And in such a relentlessly ridiculous way, how can you not love it?

You're right about Marcy and how we know so little about her as an audience, and maybe that's why I became inspired to tackle her POV; so many gaps to fill and possibilities to play with!

I think she realize then that Hank will stay a phantasm.
I like to think so too, and I hope the sort of bittersweetness I was feeling as I wrote it, on Marcy's behalf, came through at that point.

Thanks so much for the lovely feedback! I really appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy the first story too. :)

Looking at this fic again... and cracking up at than a skank with huge tits and borderline personality disorder on MTV..

Wanted to say I really like the backstory you created and how nicely it ties in with the canon.

I'm sure I'll have more comments as I let it settle some more.

Ha, thank you. Nailing Marcy's voice was a bit tough, but going back and actually listening to many of her scenes kind of got me into that headspace. She's quite like Hank in her sweeping, vulgar descriptions.

Thank you again for telling me more about what worked for you! That's always helpful. :)

Loved it!! You totally nailed Marcy (so to speak!) ;)

Thanks for sharing! I hope we'll see even more from you.

Hee, thank you! I was very intimidated about writing her, so I've been glad to see the positive responses.

I have to admit, I'd love to have at least one more Cali fic brewing in me somewhere. I don't see that as of now, but you never know!
