[Lithuania has been around the house all day, except for occasional fits when he'll walk several blocks in a circle. He isn't saying much--well, except when he's spouting off about what a great holiday this is and how they should all see fireworks later ( Read more... )

Well, you called it, Leedu.

[Estonia sounds cranky. To be perfectly honest, he's going over dates and events in Eastern European history -- usually his, with bits of Finland's and Latvia's and Ukraine's thrown in to make sure he kept a good grip on what was real -- and, chronologically, he's at the Russian Empire years. Man, those sucked.]

I'd rather be wrong.

[Mumbling, but more loudly than intended:] Estonia... Estonia... Est... Estija!

...Ah--I mean. Well, of course you are, it's just-- [It's just I couldn't remember you know how terrifying that is right you know how Russia was this is really scary] Nevermind.

Yes, Estija. [This is far more terrifying to hear than even his own thoughts trying to betray him. Lithuania freaking out may be perfectly normal, but there's never been a question of remembering names.]

You're going to be okay. Stop freaking out. It's not doing you any good.

I know it's not, I just--I couldn't remember your name in Lithuanian.

[She knew something was wrong almost immediately after waking up...and it's the almost that terrifies her. It's the complete set of memories that's chilling, and she can't figure out which side is more frightening. A life in Mayfield, or a life where she's been captured by it. Every time she settles on it, the other side creeps in and knocks her off balance again.

Vigilance, one side insists, reason the other argues. So she goes to someone else--someone one half of her trusts implicitly, and the other knows should have the answer. She claps a hand over his.] Toris. What do you remember?

[Lithuania is torn in his response, his mind filling with memories of a romance and marriage in Mayfield and his waking up next to her a few months ago as a fellow prisoner at once.]

It's like half of me thinks I've been here my whole life, and half doesn't.

[She doesn't know if that's worrying or reassuring.] M-me too. We...can't be crazy in the same way, yeah?

That seems unlikely. It's--It's Mayfield again, right?

Ah... is there a problem, Mister Laurinaitis? This really isn't the time for that- it's a celebration today, after all- so please try to-

[ he suddenly interrupts himself right in the middle of his sentence and stops. ]

...No, that's not right...

Oh, I'm not sure, Mister Ho--

Japan. Mister Japan. You remember, right? Before Mayfield?

politerudeness July 4 2011, 19:22:09 UTC
...Japan. Of course. That is my name, isn't it? ...Lithuania-san. That's Lithuania-san, right? ...Ah... this is happening again... it's very inconvenient, really.

Y-yes, I'm Lithuania. I keep forgetting my language. I think a proper droning would be less unsettling.

[Lyra's having the same problems, for the most part. One moment she's smiling happily, the next memories that she knows are false suddenly hit. While she's been able to keep them at bay, she's noticed that something's up with her dad.]

Da--Toris? You okay?

letunityblossom July 4 2011, 18:32:11 UTC
Miss Lyra. [Lithuania forces a smile at his daughter--no, she's not his real daughter, stop that.]

Ah--how are you?

catchingmusic July 5 2011, 11:16:01 UTC
Fine, mostly. [And then she takes a deep breath.]

...Do you think there's something wrong with me? I mean, we can't really put off the picnic just because--what did I just say?

Something's definitely wrong, but it's Mayfield's doing, I'm sure.

[Of course, the other half of his brain says everything is fine, and he should just relax. And he is trying to ignore that half.]

Oh I'm doing quite well Mr. Lauriantis why do you ask--no...I got that wrong didn't I? I'm sorry Lit--Mr. Lauriantis. Did you speak to my mother? We're all going to the fireworks later won't that be fun?

letunityblossom July 4 2011, 18:34:15 UTC
Ah, it got you too...

I-I'm sure that'll be fun... M-Miss Koharu, what do you remember about Valentine's Day?

[Embarrassing memories, for sure, but he's hoping remembering something Mayfield did would help. And he doesn't really want to immediately bring up any of the more terrifying things.]

Valentine's day? Um I made chocolates and--gave them...to you?

[She sounds so flustered and confused] W-Why would I give you chocolates Mr. Lauriantis--

And kiss you--wait we were--

[confused noise]

[Vaguely embarrassed noise, but at least it's snapped him back to normal for at least a little while.]

Mayfield is doing something to your mind. Mine, too. Just like it did then.
