Deb is so fucked up. I felt so bad for her at the end when she realized that LaGuerta really did want her. And that lingering concern from LaGuerta before she covered it up again was nice. Plus, washroom sex is so them, lol

Yes, Deb is royally screwed right now. I really wanted to write something less angry, but I didn't think it would be very realistic at this point considering Deb's issues and the fact that she can't seem to understand that LaGuerta might not just blindly hate her.

I hate when I write a fic and then something changes right after :) I didn't see last night's ep, but it wouldn't have mattered because I wrote this before it aired anyway. May I ask what was different? I'm really fascinated by the Dexter/Deb relationship.

She's teetering on the brink of a nervous breakdown and Maria sees it and wants to help, but there's still this habitual hatred between them and neither of them know how to be any different around the other.

That's very much how I see it, especially on Deb's part. I don't think she knows how to interpret LaGuerta's actions as nice, even when that's the most obvious or simple motivation.

Loved it. It's been deconstructed already so I won't retread that ground, but it was spot on. And, I don't necessarily think that Ep 2 ruined the feel. Just because that rift was healed a little doesn't mean the trauma isn't still there. And ::spoilers for the books:: the show deviates from the books somewhat - especially starting at the end of last season. In large part, that's a good thing (Dexter's enemies disappear too easily, we'll see how that happens in the show), but the one thing I wish they'd left in is this -- at the end of the first book, Deb isn't unconscious during the whole Dexter/Brian monologue/struggle. She hears everything, so she knows the truth about Dex. Maybe they'll work that in later, but I was kind of down with that added dimension.

And, if LaGuerta wasn't going to swerve, neither was she. The only thing that mattered in that case was who came out of the collision less mangled, and Deb was going to make goddamned sure that it was her.

You write Deb's voice brilliantly - I can hear her so clearly in my head. Which is also pleasant.

This is an amazing fic, but I paticularly chose the line above because it's the part that so cleverly circumvents the "falala - omg, I'm lesbian" out of character problem we have writing non-canon slash. I bow to you.
