The end of Battlestar Galactica

First, thanks so much for y'all's help on my Dreamwidth questionsI just finished watching the final ep of Battlestar Galactica, and was wondering what you all thought of it (of the ep, the show itself, and especially the last chunk that most recently aired, AKA the second half of season 4, AKA the last 10 eps). I'd love to hear your random ( Read more... )

Have to say I was pretty disappointed by the ending. It looked like the mysteries of the show had grown without any answers in the minds of the writers, so when they could not make sense in the end, they just blamed it all on god. That's just cheap and so is the "don't mess with robots" statement that in SF terms at least is almost as old as god.

There were some little things, mostly about the characters that I loved in the finale and the later episodes, like everything concerning Bill ans Laura and Gaius crying at the prospect of becoming a farmer.

On the other hand Starbuck the Angel going poof was rather weak as was Lee's uncontested decision to turn the remaining humans into Amish.

I tend to compare plotty SF shows to B5 and after that ending BSG doesn't stand a chance though it looked so promising in the beginning and there are still things I like about it.

*sigh* The opening line should be: "They should have had a plan"

I haven't written up my complete thoughts yet, but I was less than impressed. There are a few BSG 4.5 posts on raz0rgirl which pretty much amount to a one or two sentence reaction from me and some discussion in the comments. There are also some posts to my primary journal that I'll leave links to in another comment.

I just made a very similar post with even less eloquence! So I will be watching this one, too.

funny; I thought yours was way more eloquent than mine.

...mostly because I spent half of last night and most of today composing in my head stuff to say about the show, and will probably never write any of it down because it's way too much.

I know I have a problem!

Well, I can see that, but what I was thinking was that I had all these thoughts I didn't think were enough/appropriate/very thinky and wrote them anyway.

I miss Gaius. It's weird.

I have been ruminating on the BSG finale ever since I saw it. I think I will finally post thoughts about it this weekend.

I think a lot of people misinterpret the final message (ie , modern times). It is not, robots bad, get rid of technology.

I do very much think that the earth portion of the finale was written without consideration of day 2, as it were. If the world literally ended exactly at that point, then it was a happy ending. But, fans all make the reasonable assumption that the sun comes up the next day and the characters still have to cope.

This is kind of not relevant at all, but before I answer I just feel like I should mention that I was never a BSG fan until just a few months before season 4.5 started airing when I started watching the whole series straight from the beginning. I just thought I should mention that because I obviously never participated in BSG discussion before and never made mentions in my LJ that I was watching it (not like I ever post in my LJ these days) so I have this weird paranoid feeling that if ever I respond to BSG posts, people will be like, "Wait, where did you come from? You watch this show?" Anywho ( ... )
