I think the word I have is scary. And also sad. This narrative is sort of dream-like (or do I mean nightmare-like?) - the words written by someone who knows what they are talking about and so doesn't need to explain, but gives enough for the reader to guess at so much more. Nice.
Thanks, Maz! I really wanted to get back the experiments with tone and style that I played with when I first started writing, so I'm glad you liked it.
I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic fics. This is so... guh!
The splintering of the gang is painful. At first I thought Buffy had killed Giles to stop him from hurting Dawn, which, ouch, glad it wasn't so. I like the barest hints of Spuffy, and all the little details slipped in.
The fact that Dawn's narration ends there? Gut-punch.
Post-apocalypse fics are one of my kinks *waves to spuffy_luvr* but I don't think I've seen anything quite like this in this fandom, in POV or structure. Gorgeous, haunting. The AoL nomination is very well deserved!
Just catching up on this - chilling look at the post-apocalyptic world and Dawn's assessment of her place in it. Makes me curious as to how it turns out, and at the same time, thinking it's perfect to leave it at this critical place. Well done!
