this is insane. Having Martha being a lameo goofball in the middle of the two saddest scenes in the history of television feels rather anticlimactic :P

Um, I would have more thoughts but your post just stopped me from going to bed (and I just re-experienced the mind-numbing grief of the season 2 and 4 finales) so I'm not exactly in a sane state of mind.

:d That's contrast for ya! That entire Martha scene is one of my all time Dw favorites, so I couldn't very well leave it out:d

Other comparisons I had finished:
their life before the Doctor, end of the earth-end of the universe-beginning of the universe , their "shining moment", and their impact on the Doctor but that last one was mostly just me doing anything to keep me from studying (much like I'm doing now:d )

and comparisons I was planning on making:
- reactions to Capt. Jack (pretty much all the same)
- jealousy over the Doctor (rose: veeery jealous, donna: pretty much pushes women onto him:d)
- their snogs with the Doctor

...but that would've been a bit much.
